Abstract
The double-layered perovskite YBaCuFeO₅ (AA’BB’O5) consists of two sublattices of Fe-O and Cu-O aligning alternatively along c-axis, and atoms of Y and Ba sit in between sublattices. The YBaCuFeO₅ shows a complex magnetic phase diagram, which is mainly due to the coupling between both sublattices. This project aims to understand the magnetic phase transitions by doping different atom to affect the coupling between Fe-O and Cu-O. For doing so, attempt was made to replace Cu2+ with Ni2+. We have successfully synthesized a series of powder samples of YBaCu1-xNixFeO5 (x = 0 ~ 0.7). These powder samples have been refined to have a tetragonal phase with the space group of P4/mmm. We confirm the magnetic property of x = 0.1 that have antiferromagnetic phase transition of commensurate (CM) to incommensurate (ICM) around the TN2 ~ 278K .
